MYSTERIOUS LIGHTS GLOWED BEYOND THE HORIZON

Acrylic in 1/4" cherry plywood - 7"x5" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
SOLD

I am still trying to work with the limited earth tone pallet. I'm trying to make them more interesting by heightening the contrast.

THE HARD LIGHT FELL UPON US

Acrylic on plywood - 7"x5" - (C)BruceDocker,2008

The light here is not natural. It is more like the powerful searchlights of passing computerized surveillance platforms at 3:00 AM. You know what I speak of.

THE FORCES OF EVIL AND THE SUPERNATURAL

Acrylic on cherry plywood - 7x5" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
$100.00

Another version of the three witches from Hamlet and a group of three trees from my backyard. I'm focusing on earth tones in recent paintings and plan to do so in the near future.

BACKYARD 4:00 PM

Acrylic on plywood - 5" x 7" - (C)BruceDocker,2007
SOLD

Though this painting has less contrast than the similar "Afternoon Sun" from a week or so ago, I like how the solid forms and the shadows of both paintings merge together the permanent and the transient.

THE CARNIVAL OF TREES, AS RECALLED BY CHILDREN

The fence always makes an interesting contrast to the colors and shapes here. I'm always trying to play that difference up.

A mother waits
as still as the moon light
Standing in long grass
with her cold cold nose
What she feels so deep
she will never show
Baby don't you weep
they'll turn the buffalo
they'll turn the buffalo

WINTER, BEFORE THE FENCE

Acrylic on plywood - 5" x 7" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
SOLD

Perhaps my last winter painting this season, I know I'm ready for spring. This is from an old photo of my backyard before we put up the fence. I think the fence has been in every other backyard painting that I've done.

THE TUMULTUOUS EVOLUTION OF ROMULUS AND REMUS

Acrylic on maple plywood - 7" x 5" - (C)BruceDocker,2008

I like the differences and similarities of the electric pole and the dead tree. They are made all the more apparent silhouetted against the fading light.

UNDER THE UMBRELLAS THE SUN SHONE THROUGH

Acrylic on maple plywood - 7" x 5" - (C)BruceDocker,2008

The light filtering through the limbs and leaves is one of the nicest things about all the trees in my backyard. The patterns change often and quickly, from delicate to bold and back.

IN THE CORNER

Acrylic on plywood - 5" x 7" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
$100.00

This is a corner of my backyard that I've not painted before. This is looking off to the north east just before sunset. The sunshine on the fence is spotlighted through leaves and branches of the trees in the yard behind me.

THE THREE WITCHES

Acrylic on plywood - 7" x 5" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
$100.00

Like the opening scene of Macbeth, these three are the first you encounter in my backyard. More benign and attractive, of course.
